Teeth whitening at Pennington Dental

If you are visiting us for a course of chair-side whitening, feel free to bring along a favourite DVD to watch on our overhead plasma screen as you're in the chair for a little while.

In-surgery whitening

In-surgery tooth whitening can be a highly effective, yet very simple way, of lightening the colour of teeth without removing any of the tooth surface. It cannot change the basic colour of your teeth, but lightens the existing colour as much as is possible.

The dentist applies a chemical barrier to the gums, which will protect them during the whitening process. The whitening solution is then applied to the teeth and the chemical is then activated using heat, or heat and light combined.

Once the whitening process is finished the barrier will be easily removed in one piece.

The process would normally take over an hour but your dentist will advise you on your specific requirements.

A popular method is patented Zoom! whitening which can dramatically lift the shade of natural teeth. We apply a special gel to your teeth, then shine a specific wavelength of laser light through it. An hour later, your teeth are whiter, brighter and healthier looking.

Please note that Zoom! whitening is only suitable for use on natural teeth. Fillings, bridges, crowns or any other sort of artificial tooth will be unaffected by this process.

Home whitening with trays

Home whitening products are available from your Pennington Dental surgeon. These allow you to undertake a course of whitening in the comfort of your own home.

First, we make trays fitted perfectly to your teeth that are supplied with a speciality whitening paste. Under the direction of your dentist you can use this combination to apply the whitening paste at home and lift the shade of your teeth.
