Looking after your teeth
We often hear our dentist going on at us about maintaining our oral hygiene; we know it's something we should do. But why? This section will help you understand why your dentist makes all those recommendations, and give you advice on techniques that you can use to enhance your oral hygiene.

Why You Need a Hygienist
Brushing your teeth at least twice a day with a good fluoride toothpaste removes plaque. Plaque contains the bacteria that attacks your teeth leading to decay and cavities; removing this bacteria and limiting the substances that it feeds on (sugar) is a very simple way of ensuring that you keep your teeth for life.
Of course, it's essential to maintain the health of your gums too. Use floss or an interdental brush to remove plaque and food particles from between your teeth and under your gumline – the areas that your brush just can't reach.
Finally, a mouthwash will remove any stray bacteria and help prevent gum disease.
