About Pennington Dental
Kenilworth Dental Centre, a highly successful, caring dental practice, has changed its name to Pennington Dental.
Our new name reflects the long history of healthcare provided out of this very building. Pennington House, the home of our practice, is situated on the original High Street, Old Kenilworth, and was a convalescent home. Named after William and Mary-Elizabeth Pennington who were benefactors to the convalescent in the late 19th Century. A trust was set up to run this building as a convalescent home, which opened in 1878 and continued until the middle of the 20th Century.
In the 1800s, local football teams played to win the now 100-year-old Convalescent Cup, which possibly raised money to help for the upkeep of the home.
The Penningtons lived in Thickthorn Road, Kenilworth; William Pennington died before his wife on the last day of the year 1869 and both are buried in St. Nicholas Churchyard, close to Pennington House.
The building has been used for local healthcare since the time of the Penningtons, being a pharmacy before conversion into a dental centre by Dr. Anthony Robin Appleby and partners nearly forty years ago. Dr Appleby continues to practice from one of the front surgeries within the building. The large building also contains several luxury appartments, which were converted by a developer in 2004, and was given its present name, Pennington House.
